Virginia Republican Gov. Bob McDonnell told WTOP’s Mark Plotkin Tuesday he has “no plans to do anything but be governor of Virginia,” but when pressed didn’t completely rule out accepting a vice presidential nomination in 2012.
“I’ve got my hands so full right now I can’t see beyond putting my heart and soul into serving the people of Virginia. I don’t have any plans for higher office at this point,” McDonnell said.

Plotkin kept pushing, telling McDonnell, “you might not have plans, but the Republican Party might have a plan,” asking if he would rule out a spot as the No.2 on a GOP ticket.
“I am absolutely planning to serve four years,” McDonnell offered, noting that “there are a lot of great candidates out there for president and vice president,” mentioning Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney as possibilities.
McDonnell said he would “certainly not” accept a part time position as chairman of the Republican National Committee near the end of his term, as former Gov. Tim Kaine did at the Democratic National Committee. McDonnell also said he would not run against Democratic Sen. Jim Webb in 2012.
